Pacific Harbour, one of PLACE Design Group's key projects, has been chosen as a 'Champion Demonstration Project' by the Urban Development Institute of Australia and the Environmental Protection Agency.
The new Golf Course Precinct presents the development team at Pacific Harbour with a whole new challenge, but also a great opportunity to put the principles of sound sustainable development into action. The preservation and creation of sections of wetland and heathland vegetation in fairways, building lots and parks are of great importance to the plan. This will integrate urban areas with the natural environment as well as provide crucial habitat connections with the adjoining National Park for local fauna.
The Golf Course Precinct provides a unique opportunity - especially in the area of water management - to create a truly sustainable community 'from the ground up'. The design will maximise rainfall harvesting. Homes will have rainwater tanks for garden watering.
Street and golf course rainwater run-off in summer will be stored and recycled for irrigation, so that a few good days of rain could water the golf course for a whole season. In terms of its residential development, the Golf Course Precinct will have comprehensive covenants in place to ensure that homes are as environmentally sustainable as possible.
